Red light panels are judged mostly on two numbers: the wavelengths they emit and the irradiance (power density) they deliver at a usable treatment distance. Marketing irradiance figures are often measured at the panel surface; independently tested figures at 6 inches are far more meaningful. Coverage area, flicker, EMF and mounting flexibility separate a serious full-body system from a small targeted device.

Cut through the marketing: wavelengths, independently measured irradiance, coverage, flicker and EMF are what separate a serious panel from a gimmick.

A level-headed look at what red light therapy is used for, how to think about the evidence, and how to use a panel sensibly — without the hype.
Compare independently measured irradiance at six inches, not the figure measured at the panel surface, which is much higher and less meaningful. Higher irradiance means shorter sessions for the same dose.
If you want to treat your whole body at once, you need one tall panel or several stacked. For targeted use — face, joints, a sore area — a smaller panel is more efficient and far cheaper.
Value brands often match premium irradiance for far less money. The premium you pay for design-led brands is mostly for finish, app control and modularity — worthwhile if those matter to you, not if you only care about light output.
