The Active XL 3D is Ogawa's answer to the fit problem: a 23-inch seat, auto-extending ottoman, and a 5'0"-6'4" / 320-pound rating in a 3D SL-track chair at $2,999. It gives up the dual mechanisms and biometric extras of the Master Drive line, and it needs six inches of wall clearance, but as a value-per-inch proposition for larger users it is hard to beat.

Few massage chairs genuinely fit larger frames, and that is the Active XL 3D's entire premise. The seat is 23 inches wide — four inches wider than the Active L Plus it derives from — shoulder width matches at 23 inches, and the ottoman automatically extends or retracts to fit users Ogawa rates from 5'0" to 6'4" at up to 320 pounds. The massage hardware is legitimate mid-tier kit: a 3D IntelliGlide mechanism with medical-grade silicone rollers rides an SL-track from neck to upper thigh, 17 automatic programs (including five patented stretch routines — Stretch, Thai, Spinal Care, Vigorous, and Japanese) run alongside three custom slots, and 30 airbags with five intensity levels cover neck, shoulders, arms, calves, and feet. Heat reaches the legs, seat, and lumbar region, and control comes via a wired touchscreen tablet plus armrest quick buttons, with Bluetooth speakers and a USB-C port built in.
Trade-offs are modest for the $2,999 street price (against an inflated $5,899 compare-at). Unlike Ogawa's wall-hugging premium chairs it wants six inches of clearance behind the backrest, its single 3D mechanism cannot match the simultaneous upper/lower coverage of the dual-roller Master Drive DUO, and at 202.8 pounds it is still a two-person delivery job. Ogawa backs it with the same five-year limited warranty structure as its premium line, though in-home service drops to one year with two years of parts — worth noting if white-glove support matters to you.
